Core Playing Values
-
Play Hard: We expect to play hard all the time, giving 100% focus and effort at practice and in
games. Some measurables for playing hard include rebounds, looseballs, deflections, and taking
charges. Offensively, some examples of playing hard include cutting and screening with purpose,
ball strength, and rebounding.
-
Play Fast: Defensively, we want our players jumping to the ball and playing with a sense of
urgency. Offensively, we expect our players to win their race down the floor, while we push the
ball up the floor on a made or miss shot. We want to score as much as possible when we have or
can create an advantage. We also believe in making quick decisions. We train our players to read
if they need to shoot it, drive it, or move it.
-
Play Together: Defensively, we strive to have a team that is connected on the floor, demonstrating awareness of the ball and man. When needed, we want to take away any gaps by helping our teammates defensively. Offensively, we want to cut and screen for each other and make the right read when the ball is in our hands.
-
Play Next: Mistakes are part of the game, so we expect our players to move on from their mistakes or from their perceived mistakes. We do not accept arguing with the refs and we want to focus on what we can do “next” to impact the game positively.
